Learn more about Wilkes University!

We’re a small university, with big opportunities located in Wilkes-Barre, Northeastern Pennsylvania, about a 2 hour ride from New York City and Philadelphia. We have about 2,500 undergraduate students on campus, so classmates know each other, and their professors, by name. Founded in 1933, Wilkes University is a private, co-ed, comprehensive institution. We have 23 athletic teams and are a Division III school.

We have more than 80 clubs and organizations, so that students can get involved from the minute they step foot on campus. Our clubs range from academic-focused to purely interest-based.

Additionally, our students have the opportunity to get involved in faculty-led research; some research programs can begin in a student’s first year! This research is unique to Wilkes because many institutions don’t allow undergraduates to work alongside faculty mentors to complete research; those opportunities are usually reserved for graduate students. At Wilkes, we encourage our students to jump in with both feet and this research component helps students to find their passion.

We offer a mix of professional and liberal arts programs, and students can choose from 45 majors across six different schools. In addition, Wilkes offers master’s degree programs and doctoral/terminal degree programs including the doctor of nursing practice, doctor of education, doctor of pharmacy, doctor of philosophy in nursing and master of fine arts in creative writing.
